A website isn't finished on launch day. Like a car, it needs regular servicing to stay fast, secure and visible on Google. Here is what hosting and maintenance really cover, and how much to budget.
Domain, hosting, maintenance: three different things
- The domain name (for example your-business.ma) is your site's address. It renews every year; if it expires, your website and often your emails go down.
- Hosting is the server that stores your site and sends it to visitors. It determines speed and uptime.
- Maintenance is the human work that keeps everything up to date: updates, backups, security, fixes and small changes.
What good maintenance should include
- updates to the site, theme and plugins (essential on WordPress);
- regular backups, stored off the server, and tested;
- the SSL certificate (the https padlock) and its renewal;
- monitoring, so you are alerted if the site goes down;
- speed checks, which matter for Google and for your sales (why speed matters);
- small changes: opening hours, prices, photos, a new page;
- renewing the domain name on time;
- someone you can reach when something goes wrong.
What happens without maintenance?
Problems rarely show up in the first month, but they come: outdated plugins exploited by hackers, a contact form that silently stops sending, an expired certificate showing "not secure", or a domain lost because nobody renewed it. Each incident costs customers and rankings, and fixing a hacked site costs far more than a year of maintenance.
How much does website maintenance cost in Morocco?
It depends on the technology and how many changes you need. A modern static website (like the ones we build with Astro) needs far less upkeep than a WordPress site full of plugins, so it costs less to maintain. At FastDevWeb, domain and hosting are included for the first year in every package; after that, maintenance is 990 MAD per year and covers hosting, updates, backups and small changes. Nothing is mandatory: you can also take over yourself. See our pricing .
Choosing the right hosting
- Speed: a content delivery network (CDN) serves your pages from a server close to your visitors, in Morocco and in Europe.
- Security: HTTPS, attack protection, server updates.
- Backups: frequency, retention, ease of restoring.
- Support: someone who answers, in your language.
- Ownership: your access and your domain in your name.
Your website's yearly checklist
- Is the domain renewed, and in your name?
- Does the contact form actually reach your inbox?
- Does the site display properly on mobile?
- Are opening hours, prices, address and WhatsApp number up to date?
- Does your Google Business Profile match the website?
- Is the latest backup less than a month old?
